Kathy is an assistant professor at UC Davis, Betty Irene Moore School of Nursing, and Program Director, Health Innovation Research at Center for Health and Technology. She is a member of the founding faculty for Healthy Aging in a Digital World Institute and the Family Caregiving Institute. She also serves as Senior Scientist for Health at CITRIS: Center for Information Technology in the Interest of Society at UC Berkeley. She has an active research portfolio serving as PI/Co-PI of over 20 grants and a funding history exceeding $9M.

Before becoming an academic she spent 20 years as a hospital and medical group manager, healthcare management consultant, and software entrepreneur. She has spent a lot of time on college campuses: she has degrees from Harvard, UC Berkeley, and UC Davis, and has taught at UC Berkeley, San Francisco State University, and UC Davis.  Kathy’s current teaching includes Healthcare Innovation and Technology (a design thinking and informatics course), and PhD research methods and seminars.

Outside of work, Kathy likes to garden, hike, cook, and eat good food with her husband and two children.

Jacqueline (Jacque) Garcia

Cindi Matsumoto, MS, RN-BC

Prior to nursing, Cindi worked on implementing projects and analyzing data for a student loan corporation. As a nurse, Cindi focused on cardiovascular nursing in the intensive care unit and on the floor. To get a bigger picture of cardiovascular programs, she worked in industry for a cardiovascular information system implemented in the United States and abroad. Currently, Cindi works in the Heart and Vascular Centers collecting, reporting, and analyzing data that is sent to state and national organizations to improve patient outcomes. She is also pursuing a doctoral degree at the Betty Irene Moore School of Nursing at UC Davis. Cindi is interested in patient descriptions of heart failure symptoms and symptom tracking with the aid of technology to facilitate communication with providers.

Sayantani Sarkar

Sayantani is a PhD student in Betty Irene Moore School of Nursing. She received her undergraduate degree in nursing from India. She had two years of teaching experience in India before the doctoral program. She is passionate about using mHealth as a viable platform to address the spiritual need of cancer patients. She is also interested in exploring the potential of smart phone based health apps to provide holistic support to the cancer patients. She is multilingual and loves to spend her leisure time with cooking and hiking.

Aldreen Venzon, RN, MS

Aldreen is currently a Senior Data Analyst and Registered Nurse for Cerner Corporation, performing rich statistical data analysis and mining (e.g. Machine Learning, Statistical Modeling, Survey Sampling etc.)  Aldreen has experience in R, Python, SQL, AWS EC2, S-Plus, SAS, Hadoop Hive, Pig, Spark, Cerner CCL, Tableau, Kibana Elastic, VBA, various Electronic Health Records, among others. He is currently pursuing a PhD degree in Health-Care and Nursing Leadership at UC Davis with a dissertation focus on social determinants of health, natural language processing, and machine learning. Outside of all this – he likes traveling, meeting new people, and trying new food!

Monique Bouvier, PhD, RN, BC-PNP

Monique Bouvier started working as a postdoctoral fellow for the Kim team in September 2017.  Monique’s research interests include: symptomatology, pediatric healthcare, machine learning, and -omics research.  Monique received her PhD in nursing research from the University of San Diego, and acquired her Bachelor and Master of Science in Nursing from the University of Florida (Go Gators!).  She is a board certified pediatric nurse practitioner, but has put a hold on practicing to pursue research.  She is the mother to a totally awesome little dude, who constantly keeps her on her toes and wife to another awesome dude who keeps her grounded.  She enjoys anything and everything Disney, Star Wars, Doctor Who, Sherlock, basically anything on BBC, and loves hanging out and spending time with the family. Yes- she is a nerd and it proud of it.

Thuy Le

Thuy began working with Dr. Kim at the UC Davis Betty Irene Moore School of Nursing in 2016.  In the future, Thuy hopes to conduct health research to explore how technology can improve healthcare for patients and health systems.  As an avid gamer, Thuy enjoys playing massive multiplayer online games, such as League of Legends and Overwatch, and spends many hours playing board games with her friends.  Thuy loves keeping up with many television programs (Game of Thrones, Stranger Things, Rick and Morty, and more!) and movies. She often tries to quote her favorite characters whenever she can.

Kate Marie, MPA

Kate Marie has over 25 years of experience in public health research and program management.  She began her career in public health in the early 1990’s as a program coordinator for a hospital-based program for pregnant women at risk for alcohol and other drug use.   Kate worked as part of the UC San Francisco team involved with the evaluation of the State Family Planning, Access Care and Treatment (FPACT) program; as well as the California State Maternal Child Adolescent Health (MCAH) Division where she oversaw the development and implementation of the statewide MCAH strategic plan.

Currently Kate is the Research Manager for UC Davis Health’s Center for Health and Technology (CHT), and provides program management for the pSCANNER and California Precision Medicine Consortium (CaPMC) engagement activities.
